台東縣民聚在廣場歡慶國慶，陳樹菊也以短髮新造型亮相和民眾同歡，她在8月時將1600萬元捐給醫院，當作醫療弱勢基金，縣長黃健庭也特地選在國慶升旗典禮，頒發感謝狀給陳樹菊。
台東縣民聚集在縣政府廣場，立正唱著國歌，場面莊嚴肅穆，人群裡這位嬌小身影的阿嬤，格外引人注意，她穿著紅色圍裙 上面還寫著「時代百大影響力人物」，她就是以捐贈愛心出名的陳樹菊阿嬤。

另外，之前外傳陳樹菊退休後，要成立基金會繼續行善，對此她向大家澄清「我沒讀甚麼書，不懂也不知道怎麼管理基金會」，並透露是想請縣長黃健庭夫婦協助，將畢生賣菜積蓄以信託方式交給縣府，作為在地急難求助之用，幫助有困難的鄉親。陳樹菊說，「我賺台東人的錢，所以要回饋台東人」，並表示這是她這幾年來一直想要做的事，不接受外界捐款，「我不接受別人的錢，我自己能做我就做。」而她也表示真的很謝謝社會大眾的關心和照顧。
